Insurance Coverage Matters: Gilbert & Renton handles a diverse spectrum of insurance matters on behalf of corporate and individual policyholders, including coverage for environmental, toxic tort, asbestos and silicosis exposures, defective products, construction defects and defective building materials, directors & officers liability claims, universal life insurance, disability, and property claims, as well as disputes over retrospective premium billing and other policy administration matters.

Corporate Governance, Shareholder and Partnership Disputes: Gilbert & Renton regularly represents controlling and/or minority shareholders, corporations, officers and directors, and partnerships in corporate governance and related disputes. The firm's corporate litigation practice has included use of cutting edge mechanisms such as special litigation committees in derivative matters. In all cases, Gilbert & Renton brings unique perspective and innovative solutions to governance and shareholder disputes.

Commercial, Business, and Real Estate Counseling and Litigation: A major part of Gilbert & Renton's practice is the representation of companies and individuals—including manufacturers, property developers and managers, professional corporations, banks, trustees, and private individuals—in connection with commercial, business, real estate and other business disputes. The firm's experience includes multimillion dollar contract and licensing disputes, complex eminent domain and inverse condemnation proceedings, and the full gamut of business and commercial issues faced by modern companies and businessmen.

ERISA and Employment Matters. Gilbert & Renton has successfully represented innumerable employers, executives, officers, directors and managerial employees in employment-related disputes, including disputes arising under ERISA, federal and state anti-discrimination statutes (e.g., Title VII and the ADA), the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Davis-Bacon Act, and federal and state Payment of Wages statutes. Gilbert & Renton also counsels companies and their upper-level executives and managers in the negotiation and litigation of equity disputes, executive compensation matters, "freeze-outs" and "squeeze-outs" in closely held corporations, golden parachute and severance matters, stock option disputes, shareholder derivative actions, and non-competition and non-solicitation covenants.

Environmental Counseling and Litigation: Gilbert & Renton successfully represents businesses, land trusts, developers, non-profits, and homeowners in connection with a wide spectrum of environmental matters, including cases involving contamination from oil and/or hazardous substances, wetlands compliance, and permitting under the Clean Air Act. A primary area of specialization is oil and hazardous substance litigation under CERCLA and Mass. Gen. L. c. 21E.

Administrative Law Practice. Gilbert & Renton successfully represents businesses, non-profits, and individuals in a wide-range of administrative proceedings before federal, state and local governmental agencies.
