Training and Distinctions

Before establishing his firm in Andover, Massachusetts, Mr. Gilbert conducted a civil litigation practice for seven years at Goodwin, Procter & Hoar (Boston, MA) and Latham & Watkins (Los Angeles and San Diego, CA). Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Gilbert served as law clerk to the Hon. James K. Logan of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. During law school, Mr. Gilbert received the Williston Prize for Contracts, assisted Professor Daniel Meltzer in the revision of Hart & Wechsler's The Federal Courts and the Federal System, was an oralist and semi-finalist in the Ames Moot Court Competition, and served as an academic proctor for Harvard College.

Prior to law school, Mr. Gilbert graduated with honors from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, from which he received the school's R.W. Van de Velde Prize for independent academic work. Mr. Gilbert served as President of the Princeton University Debate Panel and, in 1982, won the National Intercollegiate Championship of the American Parliamentary Debating Society.

Mr. Gilbert is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, California, the District of Columbia and Kansas. He is a member of the American, Massachusetts and Boston Bar Associations, and is currently serving as President-Elect of the greater Lawrence Bar Association.

Training and Distinctions

Prior to joining with Mr. Gilbert and forming Gilbert & Renton, Mr. Renton practiced environmental law and civil litigation at Day, Berry & Howard (Boston, MA). Early in his career, Mr. Renton practiced at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher (Los Angeles, CA). Between these private practice experiences, Mr. Renton served as the first General Counsel to the LSP Board (Boston, MA), as a Special Assistant United States Attorney (Washington, D.C.) and as an Attorney-Advisor in the Office of General Counsel of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (Washington, D.C.). Mr. Renton is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and California, and is a member of the American, Boston, Essex County and Lawrence Bar Associations.

A 1987 honors graduate of Boston College Law School, Mr. Renton served as Articles Editor of the Boston College Environmental Affairs Law Review and earned Order of the Coif distinction. Prior to law school, Mr. Renton graduated with high honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Edward J. Denn, Esq.

Mr. Denn has been associated with Gilbert & Renton since 1998. He received his B.A. from the University of Massachusetts magna cum laude in 1993, and his J.D. from Tulane University School of Law cum laude in 1996. Since joining Gilbert & Renton, Mr. Denn has focused on civil business litigation, including numerous jury trials, bench trials and arbitrations in cases in employment, insurance and business disputes.

Matthew J. Ginsburg, Esq.

Prior to joining Gilbert & Renton in 2006, Mr. Ginsburg practiced complex civil litigation at Hanify & King, PC, in Boston, and Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, a multi-state law firm, in its Charlotte, North Carolina office. Mr. Ginsburg has extensive experience representing individuals and corporate entities of all sizes in commercial, construction, land-use, employment, and insurance disputes before courts, arbitrators, and administrative bodies. In addition, Mr. Ginsburg has served as Chairman of the Zoning Board of Adjustment for the City of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Mr. Ginsburg is a 1994 graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and a 1998 graduate of Boston College Law School. He is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts of both Massachusetts and North Carolina. Mr. Ginsburg is proficient in the Russian language.
